Serving Families for Generations

A young German coffin maker named Paul Mattil originally established Roth Funeral Chapel in 1860. He and his son-in-law, Frank Efinger opened a storefront building by the name of Mattil & Efinger Funeral Parlor. When Effinger's sister died in Connecticut leaving behind four children, three Roth children were sent by train to Paducah to live with Mr. Efinger. They quickly became active in the funeral business and the name was changed to Matill, Efinger and Roth Funeral Directors in 1896.

In 1914, the business moved from an old mansion to 433 Monroe Street in downtown Paducah where it stands today. It was noted that the new facility was the first funeral facility to be constructed in Kentucky for the sole purpose of having funerals.

In 2004, efforts were made to continue the tradition of the "locally owned and operated" business when Roth was purchased and remains in local hands. We are dedicated to "Serving Families for Generations" as one of Paducah's oldest locally owned and operated businesses.
